What makes the fitness niche different from other ones? Well, exactly that - it's a different niche. You might be thinking that you would use the same approach for any niche, as website ranking is a generic thing. However, elements such as keyword research, relevant backlinks and coherent citations will make ranking your fitness website much easier.
No matter what you are trying to achieve, getting the correct keywords and using them the correct amount of times is vital. If you try to run the best fitness marketing campaign, you must use words that the public is searching for. If you haven't realised, I have already done it a couple of time in this post already. If you can spot where, you are already familiar with this strategy and should be putting it into place. If you didn't spot them, you might want to work on your search engine optimisation skills. I am a professional in this field, so I sometimes don't know what knowledge the average person has with these skills.
There are lots of tools that can help you find what people are searching for, I really like semrush and keyword tool, but they are not free sadly, so this might not be something you want to invest in. Another simple way is to ask all of your friends, family, colleagues, what they would search for certain topics.
E.g. "Hey Chris, what would you search online if you were looking to loose weight?"
Chris: "I would probably search: "best way to loose weight without losing muscle""
Once you have asked around and got quite a few different answers, compare them all and see what trends there are.
Now you have the knowledge, the rest is simple. You simply need to add the desired keywords to your website while being careful not to abuse them. Back in the day, you would have tried to fit as many keywords as possible in one page, one blog post, one title. Today, everything has changed and it will be damaging for your search engine optimisation to use this tactic.
This is slightly more technical, so I will try to keep it simple. You may already know that backlinks are like votes, the more you have the better, but each vote is not created equally. You could get a vote which is worth nothing, and is almost not worth having, but you could get one vote which is worth tens and tens of average ones. Essentially, you want the most powerful, influential and trustworthy backlinks you can get, this is what will make a big difference for your ranking. When I say "relevant" in the same phrase as backlink, I mean you should do your best to get backlinks from sites that are from the same niche as you.
E.g. You're much better off getting a backlink from a fitness influencer's website rather than a floristry website
Of course, any backlink is better than none, but if you're trying to make the most of your time, work on getting really valuable ones.
This is a treasure hunt, not a race to who can get the most backlinks.
Have you every heard of citations? If you have, this information will make a lot of sense to you, if you haven't then you've been missing out big time! You get a citation when your business name, phone number and address is found somewhere else than your Google My Business Profile (the google maps part of google you find when you search for a service). For example, if I put your details on my website, along with a review for example, that would count as a citation, which will not only help your website rank, but it will make your Google My Business skyrocket like you have never seen.
If you were to do this yourself, it could take a while. However, my recommendation would be to find a list of the best citations for your country.
E.g. In the UK, I would look up "Top citations UK" and choose one of the first few websites. They usually give you a long list of great citations that are mostly free. All that is left at this point is power through the list until you have finished it. Unlike backlinks, you want as many citations as you can get, from anywhere, it really is a numbers game.
That is all for today, this is my first post concerning the fitness industry and how you would market it, but I am going to be providing lots more valuable information in the near future, so look out for it, especially if you work in the niche, ESPECIALLY if you have your own business in the industry. With that being said, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
